Sampling

Augmented WOODWINDS’ built-in sample library has been recorded and curated to be every bit as delicate, detailed, and expressive as if conducting your own at-home ensemble. 11 musicians performed as soloists and as an ensemble, with 56 articulations across a range of wind instruments and additional processed content for a more futuristic and avant-garde effect. Captured in detail with world-class microphones and preamps, ensuring that every sample breathes with accuracy and energy. Whether you need an evocative single instrument voice, a huge vibrato sustain, or anything in between, this library has what you need.

Synthesis

Discover sounds from 4 synth engines, from subtle textural embellishment to abstract sonic art: Virtual Analog, Granular, Wavetable, and Harmonic - alongside the Simpler engine. Inspired by over 20 years of synthesis expertise and engineering, from the minds that materialized Pigments and V Collection, this is more than a list of synth presets. These are entire instruments within an instrument, responsive and tactile, providing everything from emotive Hans Zimmer soundscapes, to misty detuned ambiences and pads gleaming with harmonic detail.

The Advanced panel takes you deep into the inner workings of the instrument, giving you detailed control over your sound sources, modulation, performance, and beyond.

Tap into the full capabilities of Augmented WOODWINDS’ sound sources by adjusting the dual engines within each layer. This puts 4 sound sources at your disposal; any combination of up to 2 sampling and 2 synthesis engines. Within each engine, make subtle tweaks or drastic changes, from filter sculpting to waveform combinations to sample mic blend.

Animate and transform your sound with ultra-simple click-and-drag modulation routing. Apply multiple LFOs, functions, random generators, and keyboard controls to numerous parameters, and customize each modulation generator to do your sonic bidding.

Turn the simplest of ideas into vibrant flurries of acoustic texture and momentum with a built-in 16-step arpeggiator. Whether you’re injecting movement into a chord sequence or looking to weave an ever-evolving woodwind tapestry into your ambient soundscapes, this familiar tool is built to be synchronized, randomized, and tweaked in real-time.

Dial in your own flavors of distortion, sound-sculpting, and drastic processing with 2 FX slots per layer, and sprinkle the final spatial and time-based touches with Delay and Reverb at the end of the chain.

The command center for Augmented WOODWINDS’ crucial macro controls; observe a real-time overview of every parameter and function that each of the 8 macros are altering, and hone in on the detail of each adjustment as you perform, produce, or record.

Capturing Magic

We knew that in order to create fresh and exciting sounds with Augmented WOODWINDS, we first had to capture beautiful and authentic samples.

Two sessions took place, overseen by seasoned sound designers & engineers on an orchestral scoring stage in Eastern Europe. High-end Millennia microphone preamps were used with a wide range of different microphones. These were mixed together in order to create a powerful and yet natural sound image. Eleven players in total performed in unison with a natural scoring approach. The instruments recorded were two contra-bassoons, one bassoon, two bass clarinets, two clarinets, 1 oboe and three flutes.

In addition we recorded the four main solo instruments from bassoon, clarinet, english horn (from the oboe family) and flute. To extend the playable range of each instrument, we also recorded contra-bassoon, bass clarinet, bass flute and piccolo flute. This attention to detail brings a comprehensive and lifelike woodwind ensemble to your DAW, with plenty of room for creative input.
